YCMEA HIGH HONOR BAND

The YCMEA Honor Band is a group of 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students selected by audition.
The auditions are held at Woodard Junior High School. There is a $5 audition fee per audition.
Students are asked to prepare the two etudes on the audition sheet and memorize scales in the concert pitches of C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, and a one octave Chromatic scale. They will also be asked to sight-read a short selection at the audition. There are no extra points for extra octaves on scales.

If you have a student selected for this group, your presence at every rehearsal and performance is essential, or you must arrange for a suitable substitute. As the director of a participating Honor Band student, you will need to rehearse the Honor Band music with each selected student. Please ensure they arrive at rehearsals well-prepared.

To register students for auditions for the Honor Band, kindly complete the online registration form by November 21, 2025, and submit the billing statement along with the audition payments. Students who are accepted into the ensemble will incur a $25 participation fee, in addition to the $5 audition fee. This fee covers tour expenses, lunch, and their t-shirt.
The rehearsal schedule will be shared once the guest conductors have been confirmed. Rehearsals will take place weekly, beginning the week we return from Winter Break and continuing until the concert on February 28th. Additionally, we have a tour tentatively scheduled for March 5th during the day.

Once students have been selected, please download the Festival of Excellence billing statement HERE. Print it, fill it out and send it to the address listed on the statement.
